    On November 6th, 2018 a ceremony was held by the Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU) to commemorate the commencement of the 125th AUN-QA program-level assessment. The AUN-QA assessment has commenced for the Bachelor of Chemical Engineering Technology (Faculty of Chemistry) and the Bachelor of Environmental Engineering (Faculty of Environmental Sciences) programs at VNU-HUS.

    Overview of Opening Ceremony

    A panel of quality accreditation experts from AUN attended the opening ceremony, including Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nantana Gajaseni, Acting Chairperson of AUN-QA Council, and Team Leaders: Prof. Dr. Wan Ahmad Kamil Mahmood, Prof. Dr. Yahaya Md. Sam, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tan Kay Chuan and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Eric Wibisono. Representatives from VNU included Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Huu Duc, Deputy Director, Representative of Offices, Functional Departments, Director of Institute for Educational Quality Assurance, Board of Rector of VNU-HUS, VNU University of Social Sciences and Humanities and officers of the programs that are seeking accreditation.

    Deputy Director of VNU Nguyen Huu Duc made a presentation to welcome the delegates, saying that over the past years, higher education in Vietnam has been advancing to meet regional and international standards. 4 key elements demonstrate this: University autonomy in Vietnam;  the increase in International education establishments in Vietnam; increased quality assurance activity at Vietnam's educational institutions, in accordance with national and international standards; and the impact of the Industrial Revolution 4.0 driving universities to keep up with international progress. The Deputy Director thanked the efforts of VNU staff and students and expressed his hopes that the review team are pleased with the results from the evaluation team.

    Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nantana Gajaseni - Acting Chairperson of the AUN-QA Council, commented that the VNU has 21 of their 316 programs that have been accredited by AUN-QA standards.. "The objective assessment of the quality of AUN-QA training programs contributes to the quality of training in Southeast Asia," Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nantana Gajaseni asserted.

    Since its inception in 1998, the AUN-QA has made improvements and promoted its mission of coordinating activities aimed at to ensure the standard of education and to continuously improve the quality of training of universities in Southeast Asia, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nantana Gajaseni asserted,.

    Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Noi, Rector of VNU-HUS said at the ceremony that "We are honored that all faculties of VNU-HUS have training programs evaluated according to this prestigious standard." VNU-HUS is the first ASEAN University to be accredited by AUN-QA and has officially reached the AUN-QA quality standard.

    The assessment of the programs at VNU-HUS will take place between the 6th and 8th November 2018. During this time, AUN-QA specialists will spend time conducting in-depth interviews with all parties involved in the accredited audit program, including faculty and department heads, faculty staff, faculty support staff and students, alumni, and employers, to obtain objective, multi-dimensional information for evaluation.

    The AUN-QA standard is a comprehensive assessment of the unit's performance and training program, based on the self-assessment report of the unit and its training program, evidence records, field surveys and interviews with stakeholders. The AUN-QA standards will help assure the quality of the unit and training program, which will open up opportunities for cooperation in training and research for staff and students with universities in the region and around the world. A favorable pathway will be created for students of VNU-HUS to study or exchange with universities in the region, thereby promoting cooperation and building communities in the ASEAN region.
